Dr. Kurt W. Schoenherr
Professor Kurt W. Schoenherr, PhD, was the founder and former managing director of our school. He died in June 2013.
Dr. Schoenherr was born 1931 in Znojmo which is in Czech Republic today. After his school graduation and his commercial education he studied economics at the University of Tuebingen, Germany. He later undertook studies of philosophy and pedagogy at the University of Vienna, Austria, where he gained his doctorate in pedagogy. The Science Minister of Baden-Wuerttemberg appointed him Professor.
Dr. Schoenherr is regarded a pioneer and patron of distance education. In 1959, he founded and was longtime managing director of AKAD, Germany's largest group of distance universities. He taught in these and other universities and colleges. He also was first chairman of the German association of distance eduation, external relations officer at the European distance education council (CEC), and delegate of the employers' association in Brussels, Luxemberg. He was awarded both the Cross and the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
