Peter Downie was a national radio and television host with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation for close to 30 years. Since 1999, he has worked in the Department of Journalism at Concordia University in Montreal, where he was the coordinator of the broadcast stream and the director of the Graduate Diploma in Journalism program.
He has received national awards for his broadcasting and teaching efforts. He has also worked as a newspaper editor and feature writer and is the author of two books. His research interests include how journalists work in traumatic situations and the critical role of radio in the development of communities, concentrating on the value and necessity of preserving local voices on the airwaves.
