Thomas Hayden teaches science and environmental journalism and communication at Stanford University in California.
He has been an oceanographer, a staffer at Newsweek and a senior editor at US News & World Report, and a freelance science journalist whose cover stories have appeared in Wired, National Geographic, Smithsonian, and many other publications.
He is coauthor of On Call in Hell, a national bestseller about battlefield medicine, and Sex and War, about the biological and social evolution of warfare. He is coeditor of and a contributor to the definitive Science Writer's Handbook: Everything You Need to Know to Pitch, Publish, and Prosper in the Digital Age.
