Audience

The audience makes up the readers, listeners, and viewers of the news. Without the audience, there would be absolutely no market for journalism, as they are the reason journalists write. Often times, writers engage their audience in order to either get ideas for further pieces or to discuss the piece at hand. This is especially the case with blogs or online newspapers with discussion boards. The audience is mainly looking for great stories and facts when they search for a way to find the news, so publications cater their works to the desires of their readerships.

Another way the audience is crucial for publications is revenue. The readership is the only reason different publications are able to stay alive. The number of readers determines the profits coming in, as well as the amount of advertising they will receive. Most companies will do whatever they can in order to attract the most audience possible.
