Call-outs exist in the publishing world, consisting of small arrows pointing out different features in graphics. They provide information or call attention to certain areas of importance. Call-outs can also be larger font-type texts set in the middle of a piece in order to call attention.
The main purpose of call-outs, regardless of what form, is to attract the reader or viewer's attention. A publication can determine the importance of certain texts or graphics that they believe should be the audience's main focus. By adding a call-out, they can ensure that it does become that very focus.
