Hard News

Hard news comes from a few concepts together. This news needs to encase seriousness and timeliness, giving the audience news and information that is both in relation to their lives as well as significance. Hard news differs completely from soft news, which is strictly light and entertainment. News that covers politics, crime, war, disasters, and current events are all considered topics that fall under the umbrella of hard news.

There are standards that cover rules and regulations of journalism. There are those who believe journalism is strictly hard news, not believing soft news to be actual news at all. It relies on the journalist to research and find the facts of the stories they hold, determining if it is indeed hard news or not.
