Microblogging is a form of blogging with smaller and more effortless material than customary blogs. They allow users to exchange quicker forms of communication amongst each other, such as promoting events or sharing images. There are commercial microblogs for publications to support their services or products, as well as personal microblogs for anyone out there to run for themselves.

The use of microblogs began to grow more quickly by 2007 with the use of websites like Twitter and Tumblr. Some people view social media as a form of microblogging as well. As this media outlet grows, more publications are using it as a technique to market their companies and expand public relations.
