Online newspapers function in both hybrid and online-only formats. Online-only newspapers are those that function solely through the Internet, without any hard copies published. Some publications began in print and transitioned strictly to online. This increased further with the growing popularity of the Internet and web-based functions in general. As this trend continues, more and more experienced and corporate companies are making the leap to online-only publications.
With online-only newspapers, publications are able to grow their readership drastically and find new demographics all over the world. They also introduce a more interactive form of media for the audience, allowing them to comment and discuss the issues at hand. This form of media is available for not only local and regional news, but national as well.
