Paraphrasing is rewriting or restating the original words of a text. In most cases, journalists will paraphrase passages in order to clarify the primary meaning behind what needed to be portrayed. Paraphrasing allows for more detail that a typical quick summary, but is shorter than what was initially written. Journalists are supposed to source where they received the information from, as it should retain the same meaning and general content from before.
