A review is a journalist's assessment of a product or piece, commonly displaying a critical evaluation of whatever it is being reviewed. Some writers even review current events happening around the world. Depending on the publication, writers can be hired on specifically to write reviews on a full time basis. Readers look for accurate and truthful analyses when reading reviews, so facts and candidness are two very critical keys for a journalist specializing in reviews.

Some companies look for reviewers to review their new products when they are released. These are considered bought reviews, and usually have a bias towards the product. Rarely, the reviews are independent, but the overall idea of a bought review will still shadow the piece. Other types of reviews include book reviews, music or concert reviews, and movie reviews.
