Sidebars originated in print content but now are more commonly seen in web-based publications. A sidebar is an area for information located on either side of an article. Sidebars in printed content usually provide space for advertising information. On websites, sidebars hold information such as links, polls, quotes, pictures, or even author information. Online media has revolutionized the use of sidebars, allowing them to incorporate useful information in a visually appealing way for just about any website out there.
