Investigative Reporters & Editors (USA)

This non-profit organization is dedicated to improving the quality and techniques used in investigative reporting. The IRE was founded in 1975 as a means of providing a network for investigative reporters to share ideas, news sources and the latest trends and techniques for gathering news. The group is instrumental in helping develop professional standards for journalists operating in the field, protecting the rights of investigative reporters to gather information, and to provide resources and training for the benefit of active investigative journalists. The IRE maintains a database and resource center that is available for members when looking for news information or contacts throughout the United States as well as other parts of the world. Through the use of publications and training seminars, investigative reporters are encouraged to develop a network of reliable resources for future use. The IRE also maintains a job center that lists available jobs throughout the media industry.
